Sonar Bookends Professional is a very powerful and cost-effective solution for creating an index. Sonar Bookends products can make an index based on a user-supplied list of items, words based on frequency, and of proper nouns detected using capitalisation and punctuation rules. All popular desktop-publishing-file formats are supported.
Users can create a detailed index automatically. and Sonar Bookends Professional does the work, so users don't have to insert index 'marks', or worse still, manually look for each entry. have a PDF from Word or any other another source, Sonar Bookends Professional has an automatic PDF reader built into the application. which means that instead of first using the export to Sonar function from within QuarkXPress, users can process the PDF directly. In addition to a run-of-the-mill, single-level list, Sonar Bookends Professional can generate a multiple-level list and it can convert a single-level list to a multiple-level list automatically. Sonar Bookends Professional is so easy and generates an index so quickly that users can create the index anywhere along the document-production phase. Creating a draft is simple and fast, making it possible to create a draft, or many drafts, for proofing. Indexing a web site is as easy as making a document index. Start with a word/phrase list and then choose web > create web site index...from the menu. This feature is NOT available in this version. New and enhanced features contained in Sonar Bookends Professional (SBP), but not regular Sonar Bookends, include: · Intelligent name reversal. SBP can correctly switch first and last names that include titles (ÒJohn Q. Smith, M.D.Ó becomes ÒSmith, John Q., M.D.Ó) and many two word last names (ÒJohn Von Tree Jr.Ó becomes ÒVon Tree, John Jr.Ó).
· Automatic subject list generation. A subject list is a computer generated word/phrase list that contains the names of people, places and things found in the document to be indexed. Proper use of filtering can significantly reduce the amount of time spent cleaning up a subject list.
· Optimisation of singular and plural phrases. SBP can look through a word/phrase list for singular and plural occurrences of the same phrase.
· User defined collating sequences. SBP allows users to define the collating (sorting) sequence for the letters of an alphabet.
· Extended preview mode. Preview mode allows you to see each occurrence of a phrase being indexed, in context, and lets you choose which of those occurrences, if any, are to be in the index.
· Improved table of contents generation. SBP can detect table of contents entries dynamically.
· Word frequency index. An index of words, filtered by their maximum frequency.
· User-supplied word/phrase list index. You supply the words and phrases that are to be indexed. This is not supported in the demo.
· Optional exclusion of words and phrases that are not found in the document.
· Word frequency count, instead of page numbers, can be used for linguistic studies.
