Code 128 barcodes are used extensively by the shipping industry as well as for inventory, identification, and tracking purposes. Code 128 is part of many labeling specifications.
Code 128's character set supports the lower 128 ASCII characters, including upper and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, and control codes. Code 128 barcodes include a mod 103 check digit to ensure data integrity. Code 128 is much denser than Code 39 and is the symbology of choice when space is at a premium.
C128Tools supports code set A, code set B, code set C, and UCC-128/SSCC barcodes. It includes five different fonts in TrueType and Type 1 PostScript format. Changing between the various fonts enables the user to alter the width of a barcode, while changing the point size alters the symbol's height.

Code 39 is by far the most popular barcode symbology. It's used for ID, inventory, and tracking. The Code 39 character set includes both letters and numbers, the input string can be of variable length, and the barcode symbol itself can vary widely in height and width.
The C39Tools font package includes 27 different Code 39 fonts. Switching between the various fonts enables the user to change the width and density of a barcode without changing its height. DCSMerger handles Photoshop 3.0 through CS DCS 1.0 and 2.0 (single-file and multi-file format) image files.
DCS files can be difficult to work with in a composite workflow. Most applications only embed the master-file data (which is a 72 DPI low-resolution image) into the composite print stream. Therefore, the low-resolution image is used during in-RIP separations or composite PDFs. Most XTensions modules and OPI systems merge these DCS files but in the process, convert the spot colors within the DCS 2.0 files to CMYK. DCSMerger merges these files but keeps the spot-color information. The output format is a composite EPS which can be placed in any EPS-compliant layout application or can be converted to a PDF using Acrobat Distiller 4.0, 4.0.5, 5.0, and 6.0.
