Quite Imposing will also appeal to anyone who's ever wanted to turn a document into a booklet, or shrink slides for a handout. Imposition is totally visual, ensuring for no wasted film, plates or time. Quite Imposing offers unprecedented ease of use in an imposition application, by breaking tasks down into separate building blocks which can each be run separately to create new documents on screen. The product also boasts full cross-platform support. Quite Imposing Plus has all the features of Quite Imposing, plus adds the following powerful features for higher-end imposition projects:
· Step and Repeat
· Extract pages
· Define bleeds
· Stick on page numbers
· Manual imposition
· Stick on masking tape
· Imposition info
· Peel off registration marks
· Delete from imposition
· Peel off page numbers New Features in Quite Imposing Plus 2.0 include:
· Command Sequences - A new Sequences dialog allows the user to string together imposition commands and assign the results a name. Optionally, users can suppress prompts and provide a custom message, so less trained users can use a system that has been already configured. · Shuffle Assistant - This is a new option on the Shuffle Pages for Imposition function. It allows the user to type in a page count, rows and columns, then fill in only the page numbers on the front of the first sheet. It can then work the correct rule for the most common saddle stitched, perfect bound, and cut stacks imposition signatures.
· PDF/X Support - Optionally (Off by default in Preferences) Quite Imposing Plus will work to preserve PDF/X data in all imposition functions. Both PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 are supported. Quite Imposing Plus is not a preflight tool or converter, but will check the PDF/X status of the files it utilises. For instance, it will make sure that a booklet imposed from a PDF/X-3 file is a PDF/X-3 file.
· Command History and XML - This release stores a history of ALL the commands that were used to make a particular PDF. They are an embedded XML file (visible in Documents>File attachments in Acrobat 6.0 or above). The commands can be inspected in the Quite Imposing Plus Info Panel, which can now display either layouts or commands. As well as providing an audit trail, these form the basis of a forthcoming standalone product, which will be able to use the PDF file, or extracted XML files, to control other impositions using an Òimposition by exampleÓ metaphor.
· N-up Centering - The N-up and Step and Repeat functions now allow the resulting page to be centered. This is a huge time saver.
· Bates Stamping - The Stick On page numbers function allows a user to enter numbers with a leading zero. The resulting numbers will all have at least the same minimum number of digits. For instance, if a user typed 0098, the pages will be numbered 0098, 0099, 0100, etc.
· Impose Annotations/Form Fields - This is an option now available within the preferences to decide whether form fields and annotations are discarded, (as in v1.0), or converted to part of the imposition.
· Hide New Features - When software is upgraded, there is sometimes resistance because training is required, especially for staff who have been following procedures that are extensively documented. To help with the upgrade path, there is an option in preferences to Hide all new features. This takes away almost all new interface elements, leaving the product very much like the old one, but with support for Acrobat 7.0. Users can choose to migrate to the new feature capabilities at their leisure.
· Further changes to Shuffle Pages for Imposition - Now incorporates new shuffle orders for cut stacks as standard selection
· Insert blank pages can now type a specific page number to insert after (Useful in automation sequences)
Limitations The limitations of Quite Imposing are mostly those of the current releases of Acrobat. Acrobat limitations:
· Acrobat does not allow page sizes larger than 200 inches (5080 mm), and Quite Imposing naturally cannot support sizes outside this range. · Quite Imposing will not impose files for which any security attributes (such as do not print or do not copy) have been set. This is a deliberate prohibition built into Acrobat.
Most other limits - like approximately 32K pages in a document - are unlikely to be of importance. Imposition sheets containing in excess of 1,000 pages on a single sheet have been tested, though the actual limit on pages per sheet will depend on many factors such as the number of different fonts and bitmaps used on the pages. Quite Imposing limitations:
· From a user point of view, one limitation of Quite Imposing is that complicated impositions - those which can't be expressed simply by a n-up arrangements and page reordering - will probably be unfeasible, though they will always be possible with the Manual Imposition feature of Quite Imposing Plus. · Quite Imposing can rotate pages for imposition, but only by 0/90/180/270 degrees.
· In addition, the automation support in Quite Imposing is limited to memorizing and playing back single actions. This will not be sufficient for those demanding full automation.
Make sure you can print
· Quite Imposing does not print, it just prepares PDF files for printing. You should verify that Acrobat can print pages the size of your imposition sheets successfully to your intended output device before you try Quite Imposing. Large format devices may require additional software; and certain non-PostScript printer drivers can have difficulty with Acrobat pages. If you intend to produce color separations you may also need additional software. We do not make or supply such software. Manufacturer: Quite Software Ltd. |
