MIF Filter is currently the only way to exchange documents between QuarkXPress and Adobe Frame Maker. With MIF Filter installed, QuarkXPress opens FrameMaker MIF documents the same as another QuarkXPress document. MIF Filter also enables export from QuarkXPress to FrameMaker. All elements (large tables, page layout, graphic objects, styles, colors, and so on) are maintained during conversion.
MIF Filter was created as a professional tool with the convenience of its users in mind. It's easy to install, easy to buy, and easy to use. Use favorite FrameMaker documents with the added advantage of the QuarkXPress environment. With MIF Filter, never again to do the same work twice; once for each application.
Due to differences between QuarkXPress and FrameMaker, some manual adjusting might be needed after conversion.
Features supported during the conversion:
· page layout, including master pages;
· color and style definitions;
· anchored and unanchored pictures;
· tables;
· conversion of unsupported features (e.g., side heads, frames); and
MultiBox XT is a QuarkXPress XTensions module that automates the creation of complex boxed ads within QuarkXPress. For real-estate guides, auto-trader books, or any publication that contains a mixture of display ads and multiple-element ads, MultiBox XT saves time and money during the hardest part of the production process.
Used in conjunction with Page Director Ad Layout System (ALS) or Classified Layout System (CLS) (both sold separately and one is required), MultiBox XT is one of the most powerful automation tools available today.
Workflow is easy: first, plan the publication in ALS or CLS by deciding where all of the ads will run in the book, this is where ALS and CLS shine. Send the finished ALS or CLS file to QuarkXPress. MultiBox XT will import the ALS or CLS document and make all of the ad boxes. Once all of the boxes have been created, MultiBox XT will use the user-defined details about each box's layout, and insert all of the right pictures and text to complete the full content automatically. The final result is a QuarkXPress document with all of the ads and their parts -- fully built and ready to print.
MultiBox XT uses a library of layouts to determine how the content of each ad should look. Tell MultiBox XT that some of the items may only appear in some of the ads (e.g., a star burst indicating a new product could appear in the top-right corner of only those ads that are listed as new). MultiBox XT can even adjust the dimensions of the content depending upon the size of the text for the description.
Since MultiBox XT uses standard, tab-delimited import files it can work with virtually any front-end, order-entry system. The more robust the system, the more MultiBox XT can automate the production workflow. Plus, since it enhances the power of ALS and CLS, use the flexible functionality of MultiBox XT to perform specialized functions such as folio creation, reader service numbers, or even inline text references.
The Nametag XTensions module automatically labels graphics placed in a QuarkXPress document. This makes it easy to identify which graphic files are used in any area of a document. The labels are placed in QuarkXPress text boxes on, above, or below the graphics in the document, and the user may specify the font and size of the text which identifies the graphics. Optionally, labels can include full path information.
Nametag labels are made of standard QuarkXPress text boxes, so they are fully printable. The labels can be manually deleted before final output of the document or by using the label-removal feature that quickly strips the Nametag labels back out of the QuarkXPress document.
NewspaperXT, a QuarkXPress XTensions module, enables managers and chief editors to monitor the progress of the current newspaper edition, while it is being produced, on a web browser. Additionally, NewspaperXT also allows users to receive customized warnings on errors.
NewspaperXT provides total control over the newspaper because status can be monitored electronically at all times through any web browser.
End costly design and pre- and post-printing errors. NewspaperXT saves valuable time and money and ensures that no last-minute mistakes are found in the final stage of a print job.
An XPort feature electronically exports a newspaper preview in HTML form. The HTML preview is exported in specified time increments or when the document is saved so that the job can be continuously monitored.
Access a thumbnail preview of the current newspaper pages, as they are being produced, and a full preview of each page. In addition, preview previously published issues; simply select a desired date, specify a range of pages to preview from previous editions, and the selected portion of the newspaper is accessible right in a web browser. NewspaperXT guarantees total control over a newspaper and provides updates on progress at all times.
A warning manager alerts the users to different problems through a customized warnings list. Based upon user-definable preferences, NewspaperXT displays warnings for missing picture files, overflow text boxes, cropped pictures, and pictures having a resolution under a predefined DPI value, a predefined color mode (RGB, HSB, LAB, grayscale, and so on), a specific file format (JPEG, TIFF, PICT, EPS, PSD, GIF, and so on), or nonuniform scaling ratios.
With NewspaperXT, receive automatic and customized warnings based on user-defined preferences noting different problems in a document's items. A mistake-free operation saves valuable time and money, and ends costly design and pre- and post-printing errors.
OverflowXTerminator is an XTensions module for QuarkXPress which provides a warning and a detailed listing of any overset text in a document. The XTensions module allows users to set preferences, such as the ability to test a document before printing, test before saving the page as an EPS, and to disallow printing if any overset text is detected.
The XTensions module can be distributed to printers or other users who will have a hand in the processing of the document, and provides a dialog box listing the status of the document and the page number where the overset text was found. With projects such as catalogs, where overset text is not necessarily apparent (e.g., item numbers or prices are dropped from the text box), OverflowXTerminator instantly alerts the user. Text can be automatically adjusted horizontally or vertically using the XTensions module, preventing the user from having to make manual adjustments.
The MPS Page Printer module for QuarkXPress allows you to output each page or spread of a document in EPS or PostScript format. For EPS output, QuarkXPress users have the option of embedding fonts within the EPS files (requires the use of the free MPS Font Collector XTensions module). For PostScript output, you have the option of creating PostScript disk files, or printing directly to a PostScript printer. The handy ÒPage SelectionÓ dialogue makes it easy to choose the pages or spreads you want to print, and the naming options give you control over the final output filename. Page Printer is a must-have for anyone working with third party imposition systems, or publishing PDF pages to the web.
PageShot enhances the QuarkXPress save page as eps command by including the ability to specify multiple pages or spreads to be saved as EPS files.
Specify multiple pages either by page number or by simply checking the all pages check box. The XTensions module provides several choices of EPS-file formats and enables the user to designate a certain area of the page to be saved as an EPS. Save a text or picture box as an EPS. Omit EPS or TIFF images, or omit them both to save disc space by minimizing file size.
This XTensions module will embed fonts, which in most cases saves several steps, resulting in increased efficiency. Store a set of preferences to be used as a style.
PageShot XS adds the ability to specify multiple pages, spreads, portions of pages, and multiple documents to be saved as EPSs from within QuarkXPress.
Specify multiple pages either by page number or by checking the all pages check box. The XTensions module provides several choices of EPS file formats and lets the user designate a certain area of the page to be saved as an EPS. PageShot XS can also save a text or picture box as an EPS.
Features:
· optionally save EPS at document close;
· hot folder to automate EPS creation;
· optionally include crop marks;
· flexible naming options;
· comprehensive logging;
· save a box or selection to an EPS; and
· optionally add page bleeds.
PageShot XS enables the user to define automatic naming rules when creating multiple EPSs from one or multiple documents.
PageShot XS supports unattended processing via the AutoShot feature which enables the user to set-up a hot folder to be checked at a user-specified interval. Files within the hot folder are exported to EPSs, optionally logging any errors for later review. Automatic processing has the capability to be integrated into large workflows.
The AutoShot feature uses a hot folder for input. Additional hot folders can be created by adding aliased folders to the hot folder.
The PictureManager XTension is a must for any XPress user who works with graphics in their documents. It incorporates a comprehensive credits management utility that allows you to create caption boxes for graphics with ease. It also has an automatic picture updating facility.
PictureXTracker searches a selected folder or a selected volume for all picture files related to one or several documents. PictureXTracker searches the volumes selected or the subdirectories contained. This allows even complex file systems to be efficiently searched for picture data -- if the picture exists anywhere in the selected directory system, PictureXTracker will find it and present it to the user.
Features:
· picture-data swap can be carried out simultaneously for several documents;
· embedded pictures in QuarkXPress documents can be edited separately;
· master pages can be included in the editing process;
· updates the assignment between the document and pictures with only a few mouse clicks, even for complex directory structures;
· allows the simultaneous reassignment of pictures to several documents;
· embedded pictures in QuarkXPress documents can be taken into account in different ways for editing with PictureXTracker; and
· master pages can be included in or excluded from the editing process.
Optional settings enable the user to locate pictures when file suffixes are to be taken into account or not, or the search is to be case sensitive, or whether the file used for assignment should always be the one with the latest date.
In QuarkXPress documents, embedded pictures can be included or excluded from the editing process. Reassignment can even be carried out for all open documents at once.
After PictureXTracker has searched the directory or volume, the status dialogue shows how many pictures have been found in the directory system searched. If required, a list of the missing pictures is generated.
If PictureXTracker finds several pictures with the same name in the searched directories during the search process, the user will individually decide which picture file is to be valid.
PictureXTracker loads the selected pictures into the document, and the document is updated. PictureXTracker enables the user to replace complete or partial picture paths with others. Using Macintosh or Windows path separators, even the platform can be changed when required.
Define certain settings to be taken into account for assignment. For instance, make the search case-sensitive, or if all open documents are to be searched at once, the relevant settings are defined. Use wildcards in the search field. PictureXTracker thus becomes an essential tool in handling QuarkXPress or InDesign documents as well as the related pictures in changing or multiple work environments.
PrintShop Mail is an application for variable printing. PrintShop Mail does only one job. It personalizes layouts. Using familiar layout and database tools, create the layout and manage the necessary data. Then let PrintShop Mail do the rest. The document layout is sent to the RIP only once, and variables (the personalization), text, or graphics are exchanged at high speed.
The RealVue3D desktop application transforms a brochure, catalog, magazine, leaflet or any other commercial design job into a stunning 3D Java file in minutes with RealVue3D.
Redefine Style Sheet augments the power of QuarkXPress style sheets. Simply define and redefine style sheets based on any selected text in the document. There is no need to wade through layers of dialogs or repeatedly apply styles by hand.
Features:
· new palette provides fields for displaying and adjusting the paragraph and the character style sheets;
· context-sensitive button shows different functions: define, redefine, apply, rename, and option-redefine;
· defining a new style sheet now takes only two clicks;
· new style sheet is applied to the selection;
· apply style sheets with small, new palette;
· rename an existing style sheet with one-click process; and
· use any formatted text to redefine a style sheet, whether or not that style sheet is already applied to the selection.

The Renumberer XTensions module automatically sets consecutive page numbering across multiple QuarkXPress documents. This XTensions module is useful for larger publications which are composed of multiple QuarkXPress documents, each one holding only a single page, spread, or section of the finished piece.
To use this XTensions module, start by selecting the documents to renumber. Using the advanced file-selection dialog, select individual files or scan an entire volume or folder for QuarkXPress documents. The list can also be reordered by simply dragging a document to a new position, and job lists can be saved and reimported at any time. After choosing the jobs, fill in the dialog and press the renumber button. Renumberer will open each document, set up the appropriate page numbering, save the document, and continue on with the next job in the list. When it's finished, all of the QuarkXPress automatic page numbers will reflect the new ordering.
