For industrial-strength publishing, Xdata places no limits on the data. Records and fields can be as many and as long as needed, within the overall limits of QuarkXPress documents. Completely integrated with QuarkXPress, Xdata automatically formats data exported from a Macintosh or Windows database or spreadsheet application, or downloaded from corporate-information systems, freeing the user from endless manual formatting. Xdata can also import related pictures (of any type supported by QuarkXPress) into boxes anchored in the text.Xdata is easy to use: in the database or spreadsheet application, select and sort the data to be published, export it in standard raw ASCII format (comma or tab delimited); in QuarkXPress, create a template for a prototypical record, including place holders for each field (for example, name, formatted in any fashion); import the file using the Xdata menu in QuarkXPress, choose the data file, and press start in the Xdata control panel. Xdata does the rest.Xdata gives complete control with a powerful English-like scripting language that includes or excludes fields, pictures, and static text, based on the value of one or more fields in the current or previous record. Thus, create sophisticated record templates that apply different formats to a field, based on its, or another field's, value (for example, causing a page break or formatting a major heading in reverse type), given a change of value indicating a new section or subsection.Xdata is AppleScript-compliant and Frontier-script savvy, for automation of large, complex jobs involving multiple imports in multiple documents. Xdata comes with a 200+ page manual containing in-depth tutorials, user guide, and reference sections.Xdata natively supports QuarkXPress 4.11, 6.X, and 7. It is also being successfully used by a number of customers with QuarkXPress v5, though this version is not supported by the manufacturer.
