Features Resources qXport is a flexible and reliable program that has been optimized for converting Word files into QuarkXPress and InDesign CS files. It can also be used for exporting to simple XML or plain text. qXport attempts to retain the Word structures which are also available in QuarkXPress and InDesign while at the same time cleaning up the Word files. Features: • completely new design; • delivers better cross-platform compatibility and significantly improved performance; • now available in a native Mac OS 9 and X version along with Windows (98-XP); • can now be used with MS Word 97-2004 (Win/Mac) for export to QuarkXPress v3 through v6 (Win/Mac) and InDesign 3 (Win/Mac); • has optimized output to InDesign CS, providing native InDesign CS tags and support for index tags and tables; • unlimited number of parameter sets simplify handling of the numerous conversion and export options available; • using individually definable tables, replace fonts during conversion (this is useful for typesetting in foreign languages that do not use Latin fonts; • Unicode support automatically adapts character codes for typesetting in languages such as Greek, Polish, and Cyrillic with QuarkXPress; • automated optimization (bolding is automatically removed from symbol fonts; and • offers simple XML export with paragraph style sheets representing individual paragraph tags or use plain text to remove all of the original formatting information. Proven conversion capabilities: • paragraph- and character-based style sheets; • special typographical characters; • numbered and bulleted lists and outlines including special characters; • colored text; • tables converted to text with tabs (for QuarkXPress) or native InDesign tables (for InDesign); • footnotes and endnotes shown at end of document; • full support of symbol character sets such as Symbol, Wingdings, and Zapf Dingbats; • full support of indexes recognizes index tags in Word and prepares them for use with IndeXTension in QuarkXPress v4.X and higher versions, or InDesign CS; Advantages: • index tags for generation of indexes are recognized (standard XPress filter ignores them); • only imports style sheets that are used in the Word document; • recognizes text in text fields; • ignores page breaks (that result in jumping between frames); • batch processing, any number of Word files can be converted at once; • recognizes and converts native tables (for InDesign CS) or converts columns into tabs (for QuarkXPress but does not recognize table tags); and • generates consistent, high-quality output with any of the supported QuarkXPress versions, Word versions, or operating systems.
