ARTS Split Pro is an industrial-strength, stand-alone for splitting PDFs. It features a set of tools that allow users to perform intelligent splitting based on page content and watched folders, and is built on an engine that has the power to process more than 2000 pages per minute.By selecting areas on a page, or specifying particular text and applying a particular command to that text or area, coordinate files can be created in Acrobat to split PDFs based on the text on the pages. ARTS Split Pro can split PDFs using several methods:• bookmarks;• control file;• control file full path;• coordinate file, using ARTS Split Pro Assistant and Adobe Acrobat;• file size; and• single pages.split by bookmarks enables the user to split a PDF based on the bookmarks it contains. Each page that is book marked becomes the start of a new fragment, and the title of the bookmark is used to name the fragment. The subsequent pages without bookmarks that follow each split are added to the fragment until the next page that contains a bookmark appears; at which time the next fragment is created. The level of bookmarks to use can also be defined with the top-level bookmarks being level one.split by control file (control file by definition is a file used by ARTS Split Pro to control the splitting process), enables the user to predefine the page ranges and file names for the resulting fragments, the smaller PDFs produced by the splitting process.A text file listing the page range and final output name for each fragment is used, and when split by control file is executed, the file is split and each fragment is given a file name from the control file and placed in the specified folder.Choosing split by control file full path splits a file based on the settings the user specifies in the control file, with each fragment being stored in the directory indicated by the full path in the control file.split by file size enables the user to split a PDF based on the user’s desired file size of each fragment. Specify the size of the PDF fragments and ARTS Split Pro will split the PDFs to the closest possible size as measured in kilobytes.Use ARTS Split Pro Assistant to create coordinate files for intelligent, page-content-based splitting. Coordinate files can be used to make ARTS Split Pro splits based on the text on the pages of a PDF. Some simple examples include:• split when an invoice ID or other unique identifier on the page changes;• split when specific text such as page number or chapter heading appears on a particular page, and use this text to name the resulting split file;• split when a text string appears on two pages in a row, then split the file and make the file name this repeating string; or• split when a text string appears on two pages in a row.Additionally, using watched-folder mechanisms or manually, the full range of commands available for use with coordinate files allow the user to:• split based on changing page content;• split if specified text is found on page;• split if specified text is found within a rectangle;• new COM methods: SplitByBookmarks, SplitByControlFile, SplitByCoordFile, SplitByFileSize, and SplitIntoSinglePages;• GUI options include logging enabled, silent mode, and overwrite mode;• additional rectangle commands for coordinate files;• view commands feature for ARTS Split Pro Assistant;• extract text from a PDF to a text file;• fill the document summary from the text on the page; or• use text from the PDF as the fragment’s file name.Use watched folders to automate splitting. ARTS Split Pro’s watched folders allow an automated splitting process to be created and can be accessible from a desktop or across an entire network. The user specifies the folders to watch and any PDFs placed in these designated folders will be processed according to the user’s specified settings. The watched-folders function can also be used in conjunction with control files and coordinate files, allowing a fully automated, intelligent, server-side splitting solution.ARTS Split Pro can be directed from the command line also. The command line calls can be used to run a splitting process and can be integrated into a user’s PDF applications.Manufacturer: ARTS PDF, Inc.
Gemini quickly converts any size PDF into other formats enabling the user to reuse the content in other ways. Whether to post a user manual on the internet, an article from a newspaper, reformat a financial report, or rework an entire book, Gemini saves time and effort. The product includes a stand-alone application and, for Windows users, a Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat. Using the stand-alone application Acrobat is not needed but, for Acrobat owners, all of Gemini's extraction facilities are available from Acrobat's main menu. The Macintosh version is available as a stand-alone application only.Gemini exports the text within a PDF in a variety of formats including HTML, RTF, eBook, and Palm Doc format (for Palm based PDAs). It supports all standards of PDF plus password-protected documents (40- and 128-bit encryption compatible with Acrobat v6.X).In addition to text formats, Gemini exports photos and graphics as JPEG, EPS, TIFF, PNG, and BMP. Export embedded images or render artwork or entire documents at a range of sizes, resolutions, and color depths. Using the powerful batch-export feature for example, it’s a simple task to generate thumbnails for each page from hundreds of documents in one operation or to convert an entire document into a multipage TIFF.Features: • convert PDF to ASCII, Open eBook, HTML, Palm Doc, or RTF (for MS Word);• convert tables into text, HTML, RTF, and SYLK (for spreadsheets);• reflow and de-hyphenation of text;• advanced character remapping for problem documents;• export images as JPEG, TIFF (multipage), PNG, BMP, or EPS with scaling;• retain clipping paths and OPI names with Photoshop-compatible EPS;• render PDF at a variety of resolutions and color depths• customize HTML headers, footers, frames, color, and navigation links;• retain page layout in ASCII, HTML, and RTF;• full support for double-byte characters and Unicode output;• preserve reading order in and across pages using article threads;• preserve hypertext links in HTML, eBook, and RTF;• batch conversion;• automatic recognition of tables created in tagged PDFs; and• conversion of Hebrew documents into logical and visual HTML.Gemini is able to retain the layout of PDF pages in nearly all of its supported output formats. Whether simple text, RTF, or HTML output, Gemini will use whatever techniques are available in that format to mimic the layout of the original pages. Gemini includes a brand new system for retaining layout using style sheets in HTML.Gemini outputs text in a way that makes it easy to edit. Add site-specific information or alter words or phrases in the text, and find the output clean and easy to understand. The more advanced HTML output formats will even create a separate CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) file. Edit this file to quickly alter the look and feel of the entire document. When documents are already marked up for reading with article threads, Gemini will output them on an article-by-article basis so there is no need to spend time splitting up pages of text. It quickly and accurately combines fragments of articles split across pages, reflowing the text complete with any images and tables as a single entity. Gemini will also produce a list of hyperlinks taking the reader to each article in turn. Gemini also includes the tools needed to add article threads. When outputting HTML, Gemini will preserve hypertext links from the original PDF. These can be links to pages, to other documents, or to URLs. If the document has bookmarks, Gemini can output them as hyperlinks. In HTML, it can present the bookmarks side by side with the pages using frames for easier navigation. If the document has no bookmarks, Gemini will create a set of bookmarks by looking at titles and headings throughout the document a real timesaver when converting long documents.Gemini is fully able to support documents containing double-byte fonts and will output Unicode equivalents of character codes whenever it is required. The Windows version also offers a host of output text encodings such as Shift-JIS and Big-5 in addition to the standard and UTF-8 encodings supported by the Macintosh version.Sophisticated image-scaling features enable the user to specify minimum and maximum sizes for image output. This is an asset when converting documents for internet usage where large images mean slow downloads. Instead of the user having to make these adjustments, Gemini takes care of it all.Images can be output as Photoshop-compatible EPS together with any clipping that was applied in the PDF. The output is fully compatible with Photoshop, QuarkXPress, and Adobe InDesign, and, by including complex clipping paths, save time and effort in re-masking. EPS is also the best way to ensure maximum color fidelity when transferring images into other applications. If PDFs contain OPI information, Gemini can export the images with their original names the names used for the image files at the time the PDF was created. Optionally interrogate individual images by right-clicking the mouse button while over an image.Entire PDFs can be rendered into multipage TIFFs. This is a variant of TIFF that can contain multiple images in a single file and is widely used as a format for fax machines. Gemini can render pages as bitmaps, dithered-bitmaps, grayscale, RGB, or CMYK images at a range of resolutions from 72 to 1200 DPI.Some PDFs are constructed with bad font encodings which means no software will be able to export the contents correctly. Gemini offers a powerful and flexible solution to this problem with its new character-map facility. Using the character map (not available on Macintosh), remap characters from a selection of text in the document to any other Unicode character. Browse all the character shapes stored by a font within the document and change any or all of the mappings with ease. All re-mappings are remembered so that in the next instance the user wants to extract from the document, or another like it, time will not be spent making tedious, manual corrections. Get useful content from documents that previously could not be exported.Since Gemini is now both a Plug-in (Windows only) and a stand-alone application, it merges all the functionality of previous versions of Gemini and Gemini Solo into one product.Manufacturer: Iceni Technology Ltd.
PrintShop Mail is an application for variable printing. PrintShop Mail does only one job. It personalizes layouts. Using familiar layout and database tools, create the layout and manage the necessary data. Then let PrintShop Mail do the rest. The document layout is sent to the RIP only once, and variables (the personalization), text, or graphics are exchanged at high speed. This technology enables output at a maximum speed on any PostScript printer. The RIP plays an important role in the overall speed of the process. High-volume mailings and sophisticated layouts cannot be created with word processors. In such a solution every single page will be generated, transported over the network, and processed separately before finally being RIP-ed and printed. This might be practical with one hundred addresses, but higher volumes inevitably block the entire production site for hours on end. PrintShop Mail is the answer to that problem. One of the biggest advantages of PrintShop Mail is the seamless inclusion of colors and fonts into documents. Use any font, in any style, size, and direction (including barcodes and OCR-B fonts). The Macintosh version also allows the user to apply variable images such as signatures and photos.Features:• easy personalization;• employs professional layouts created in QuarkXPress, PageMaker, and other popular applications;• easy use of data from any database that supports DBF exports;• prints and personalizes in one step;• uses color to make mailings more attractive;• Macintosh version supports variable images;• optimizes PostScript output;• evaluates and combines data with a simple command language;• supports barcodes and OCR-B;• extended ASCII conversion between Macintosh and Windows, various extended ASCII character sets included;• splits job functionality; and• available in Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. On the Mac platform the following features were in version 4.X, but are NOT included in version 5: • No Guidelines• No Imposition (and no cropmarks)• Can do Repetition (but don't see little preview window)• No Hot foldersThe Designer version prints only demo pages, but gives the user the opportunity to design a complete variable-data print job. This job can be accepted by the PrintShop Mail provider using the same software, including the option to print up to several numbers of records. The Limited version processes 200,000 records.Manufacturer: Atlas Software BV
