MaskIt

MaskIt masks page areas of PDFs so that anything that would normally display or print in that area will no longer appear. However additional items that might be added to the PDF later, such as text output from Impress and Impress Pro (both sold separately), will display.

MaskIt can create masks that remove information from either inside a defined area, such as a graphic or logo, or outside an area (e.g., remove headers and footers from a page but leave everything else on the page intact).

Features:

• mask areas internally or externally to a defined area;

• mask across multiple pages;

• mask odd and even pages;

• define distribution to page ranges;

• save masks for future use; and

• easily define masks using the mask tool.

Mediasizer

This product changes the media page sizes in Acrobat. For example, most documents produced in the US are created on letter-sized paper and most in Europe are on A4. This product quickly changes PDFs from one media format to the other, without having to repaginate and recreate the PDFs in the original application. Several standard media sizes are included and additional sizes can be added.

Manufacturer: Mapsoft Computer Services Limited

OpenOptions

Use OpenOptions, an Acrobat Plug-in, to change the default appearance of PDFs when they are opened within Acrobat. Acrobat offers a built-in facility to control the default open options but, within Acrobat, these features have to be set on a file-by-file basis. OpenOptions enables the user to set these document-opening features once, and then apply those settings to a large number of files if used in conjunction with Mapsoft’s Automator Plug-in (sold separately). Files of various open options can be standardized by running Automator with configurations saved in OpenOptions.

Manufacturer: Mapsoft Computer Services Limited

PageManager

PageManager, an Acrobat Plug-in, provides facilities to manage PDFs. Using PageManager, create, remove, insert, and replace pages from within files. This functionality is similar to Acrobat’s insert, extract, delete, and replace options, but with additional functionality.

Features:

• create a new (empty) PDF;

• specify the size of any new pages that are to be inserted (can be the same size as one of the pages already found within the file or, alternatively, they can be any size supported by MediaSizer tool sold separately);

• manage multiple documents in one batch operation using PageManager in conjunction with Mapsoft’s unique macro builder tool, Automator (sold separately); and

• retain bookmarks or links that exist in pages inserted into another file when those pages are inserted into the target file.

pdfColorConvert

Easily convert colors from within a PDF. With pdfColorConvert, callas launches another sophisticated tool for professional PDF editing. The Plug-In for Adobe Acrobat 6 and 7 converts RGB/Lab data and spot colors from within PDF documents into CMYK, thus providing a basis for reliable, color matching print output. pdfColorConvert has been designed for publishing experts as well as for office users who are looking for an easy way to output their PDFs properly — even without being skilled with detailed Color Management knowledge.

Users in prepress agencies and print offices can greatly benefit from pdfColorConvert. By using the Plug-In, preparing PDF files for colored print output becomes child's play. On the other hand, pdfColorConvert supports editing houses and ad agencies allowing them to contribute to high quality printing of their publications.

What makes it so outstanding is its ease of use and its competitive price — and still it allows high class Color Management. In case the user does not know the origin of the PDF to convert, pdfColorConvert can determine input settings automatically; the Automatic Best Guess feature identifies even PDF/X files. To convert and output the PDF document correctly, a number of current ready-to-use output profiles — from sheet fed offset to gravure print — have already been set up by callas.

Users just have to choose the output destination — no more adjusting is required — it's as simple as that. Of course, a manual determination of PDF origins is also possible, as well as importing individual output profiles.

Additional features make operating with pdfColorConvert even more comfortable. The Recall... option helps to save time when it comes to processing repetitive jobs; it identifies and adopts former settings which may be suitable for current color conversions. Each and every conversion process is documented thoroughly with reports including detailed information. And for users who get stuck, help texts have been integrated into the pdfColorConvert interface guaranteeing fast operating at any time.

Advantages:

• professional Color Management — very easy to operate;

• preconfigured input and output profiles;

• allows Color Management even without background knowledge;

• very easy to install; and

• competitively priced.

Features:

• conversion of RGB, Lab- and ICC-based data as well as Spot Colors into CMYK;

• CMYK to CMYK converting also possible;

• Recall-feature for Spot Color converting;

• automatic determination of input settings if PDF origin is unknown (Automatic Best Guess);

• report feature for documenting converting processes;

• sample files for quick and easy start.

pdfInspektor2

With pdfInspektor2 the user enters a new era of preflighting and automated correction of PDFs for prepress production.

While even the tiniest detail of a PDF page will be covered by the pdfInspektor2 analysis, prefabricated tried-and-proven preflight profile templates enable the user to begin immediately. At the same time, templates are not static but rather have limitless options for customizing preflight profiles to precisely meet specific production requirements.

pdfInspektor2 now supports PDF/X-1a format and can at the same time preflight PDFs and convert PDFs into PDF/X-1a files.

An unprecedented highlight of pdfInspektor2 is the visualization of its findings. While a conventional preflight report with detailed problem descriptions is still available, the snap function revolutionizes the way problematic elements on PDF pages are dealt with. It is not necessary to read a description to understand what is wrong with the data — it is shown as well. pdfInspektor2 runs the check routine element by element and displays problems in the element inspection window. If one character has the wrong font or a line happens to knockout where it shouldn't, pdfInspektor2 will display it clearly.

Beyond this interactive, visual culprit detector, the additional breakout function creates a report where every page displays one errant element together with a succinct description about what's wrong with it. This conveniently visualized preflight result will end fruitless searches and within seconds get the user focused on actually solving problems and completing the job.

pdfInspektor2 can be run fully automated, using AutoPilot technology (sold separately); and pdfInspektor2 can be licensed as a shared library for Mac and Windows that runs without Acrobat.

pdfInspektor2 allows limitless preflighting with more detailed PDF analysis and easy-to-use preflight reports that unveil every problem in PDFs.

Once throughput reaches dimensions where manual operations become cost prohibitive, the pdfInspektor2 Auto Edition in conjunction with AutoPilot (sold separately) puts sophisticated, limitless, and flexible automation at the user's fingertips.

pdfToolbox Server 3

PitStop Professional

PitStop Professional is the first, and only, comprehensive PDF-editing tool. It allows for complete visual editing and manipulation of any PDF from any source.

Its wealth of powerful editing features, group navigation tools, and inspection support lend to a robust, indispensable desktop tool. PitStop Professional works in the familiar Adobe Acrobat environment, uses limited computer resources, and requires minimal training. Available for Mac OS and Window 95/NT, it requires Adobe Acrobat. With its streamlined and object-oriented design, PitStop Professional is rapidly becoming the standard in electronic-document and publishing environments. As with any document format, making changes to the document's content is essential — PitStop Professional makes almost any change possible.

PitStop Professional’s simple but powerful tools allow easy selection and editing of any graphical object — just like in familiar illustration applications. Easily access all of PitStop Professional's major functions such as text-editing tools, path-editing tools, all inspector palettes, including the graphics inspector, color mixer, font picker, and preference menu, view (zoom controls), arrangement options (for full control of grouping and stacking of objects), and selection options.

Until just before outputting a PDF job, use PitStop Professional’s power to make corrections. Edit individual text lines preserving their alignment (left, right, centered, or justified). Modify line art, including clipping masks, by dragging the path nodes or the Beziér control points. Adjust object attributes, for example to bring the width of a hairline stroke within the acceptable range for the production process. PitStop Professional fully preserves the content of the PDF page, including all production-oriented attributes. Make changes confidently, without the risk of damaging elements that haven't been touched. All of the standard editing features, such as copy and paste, Beziér-node control, and multilevel undo make PitStop Professional the right tool for the job.

Edit in preview mode or in wireframe mode. This combines the benefits of full WYSIWYG with the fine selection capabilities of a wireframe display. A powerful floating inspector displays all attributes of the selected object. The inspector automatically adapts to the object type.

Additionally, you have the choice in several industry standard color engines to convert color consistently:

• PDF/X-4 compliance;

• better and more reliable font operations on all font types;

• create custom PDF Profiles based on any existing PDF profile ;

• control your viewing preferences; and

• choose how text is displayed in wireframe view.

PitStop Server

PitStop Server has brought the efficiency of automated workflow to PDF. Now PitStop Server 1.5 extends this power even further with enhanced-processing performance (more than 30% faster) and an extensive Action-list library that lets users change a broad range of document attributes quickly and easily.

PitStop Server brings the advanced preflight capabilities found in PitStop Professional (sold separately) to a stand-alone, batch-processing application. The software includes preflight profiles for a variety of media, and a profile editor which creates new profiles or customizes existing templates to ignore, caution, or enforce document properties.

Profiles can also be set to change and log properties such as media size, font embedding and usage, spot-to-CMYK color conversion, black-text overprint, and white-text knock out. PitStop Server automatically generates a clear, in-depth report on each file detailing error and warning, font, color, image, and OPI information.

The preflight report can be assigned to accompany the document or routed to a separate report folder. PitStop Server supports an unlimited number of active hot folders allowing the administrator to run multiple document profiles.

PrintCapture

PrintCapture transparently keeps track of the entire print history of a document. This is especially useful in departments which bill for color prints. PrintCapture indicates how many prints were made to which printer at what time and date. This running log is kept with the document in its folder, and can be viewed as a text document or imported into any database or spreadsheet software. This product makes billing more accurate and easier on both operators and administrative personnel.

Features:

• client popup menu and data sent to database;

• client popup changes job number;

• popup shows only this client's job numbers;

• auto-archiving of database;

• easier to customize;

• three different styles of print-tracking modes to choose from (normal enables users to type in any job number or select from a list; job number requires the user to select job numbers from a list; or stealth with no dialog interface);

• improved manager application allows multi-criteria filtering so print information can be sorted to only that which is needed;

• optionally track only certain printers;

• comment field;

• optional centrally served popup list of job numbers that sorts itself depending on what has been entered, allowing for hundreds of numbers; and

• direct integration with FileMaker Pro

Free with PrintCapture, the stand-alone print log viewer tracks a file or enables the drag and drop on the print log viewer to automatically compile useful information about the print history of a job. In addition to giving totals it takes the various user-defined billing rates and calculates up-to-date billing totals for the job, and can print the information.

print log viewer is a System extension that continually monitors printing from any application. Once in place, any printing which uses background printing, including all desktop printers, will cause a small extra dialog to appear which allows (or requires) the user to enter a job number for the print. This information is then added to a print log which can then be viewed with print track manager. Information tracked includes: number of pages, number of copies, page size, printer name, machine name, job number, creator application, document name, user name, and print area.
