No Database Required! If you work regularly with InDesign, you probably already know that there are various ways of importing and placing images, illustrations, text documents and spread sheets. The new LiveBrowse plug-in provides you with a visual overview of your image files directly from within InDesign. Then, just drag-and-drop! It is easier than it has ever been before, and there's no need at all for having an advanced image database to do this. LiveBrowse 'browses' the folder that you select as the main folder for your assets, (i.e. images, illustrations, text files and spread sheets). After you have chosen the root folder, LiveBrowse gives you full navigation in sub-folders and root folders. This way it is easy to obtain previews of (for instance) all logos directly in InDesign. Using LiveBrowse it is very simple to select a folder and have the file content of the folder shown in the shape of previews directly in the InDesign palette. You can select one main folder containing all customer folders, and then by using LiveBrowse, navigate your way through the files that reside within these underlying folders. Using LiveBrowse, if you wish to view the content of a sub-folder, you simply click on that folder. A handy button in the bottom af the LiveBrowse palette will let you navigate a folder-level up. This way you have full folder navigation from within InDesign. Then, to place the chosen file on your page all you have to do is simply drag-and-drop it out onto the page. LiveBrowse enables you to select various preview sizes in the palette, depending on the level of detail you desire. If the content of the selected folder changes, you simply click on the Update button in LiveBrowse to update the palette in InDesign. The LiveBrowse palette works in the same way as InDesign palettes making it an intuitive solution. Click the Resources tab above for related articles and other information on this topic.
